We’re living in an era where medical technology and services are offering new breakthroughs in protecting our health on a daily basis. As the science evolves, medical professionals are turning to a more comprehensive approach to health, concentrating not only on treating the symptoms of disease, but more importantly getting to the root causes and finding ways to promote wellness and health before disease can get started.
Rachael Cabreira is the founder and CEO of a multiorganizational group of experts at Innovative Wellness who provide a variety of services to men and women suffering with pelvic and sexual disease issues. “My goal is to provide resources, education and health services for an optimum quality of life,” Cabreira says. “That outcome is the result of a multi-discipline, holistic approach that can keep people healthier, longer. In the medical industry, we’re good at keeping people alive, but we’re not so good at keeping people healthy. What we try to do is to connect the physical, emotional and the spiritual to support optimum health and have our patients embracing life.”
Rachael, who is an RN, BSN, MSN, FNP-C and Certified Sexual Health Clinician, and her team at Innovative Wellness are passionate about providing healing solutions and dignity through holistic practices that optimize the patients’ health care needs. As part of a comprehensive approach, Rachael and Innovative Wellness offer help to women who suffer from urinary incontinence, pelvic and sexual dysfunction, solutions for men who suffer from erectile dysfunction, bioidentical hormone health services for men and women, pelvic floor physical therapy for men and women, sexual health consulting, counseling, and coaching by a certified sexual health clinician and breast cancer survivorship services for women who suffer from vulvovaginal atrophy & pelvic pain, lifestyle management including weight-loss, nutrition services, and pregnancy, birthing, and postpartum wellness, among other services.
“The goal is always to keep you healthier, longer,” Cabreira explains, “and that involves a comprehensive approach to the emotional, spiritual and physical aspects of life. We need to get to know our bodies intimately again, and when that happens, when you’re embracing life, there’s a glow and a joy you feel, a life force that is at the root of good health.”
Cabreira has been practicing her specialty for more than twenty years, and has heard stories about almost every possible issue when it comes to women’s sexual health. And the numbers are alarming – about 40% of women suffer from some sort of sexual dysfunction, but only 15% will actually discuss their problem with a medical professional. Approximately 60-80% of menopausal women have vaginal discomfort, dryness, pelvic pain or pain with intercourse, and 80% of these issues can be resolved with holistic, interactive, non-surgical intervention.
One of the strengths of Innovative Wellness, is that they practice highly personalized medicine. In order to have a successful outcome, Rachael and her colleagues develop a personalized treatment plan to provide a solution and to recover and heal and optimize their quality of life. They then provide a full range of treatments, including traditional and state-of-the art urogynecological treatments, hormone therapy, sexual medicine, lifestyle management and anything that would address the root causes of the problem, not just a plan to medicate the symptoms.
“Many times women will tell me about their bladder infection or of pain with intercourse, and we don’t just want to treat the current condition. We want to do things to get your entire system healthy and look at treatments over the long term and what we have to do to get you completely healthy and eradicate the obstacles that prevent you from getting there. We have all been inspired by our patients and they have taught me so much.”
One of the most common problems that Rachael and her team have encountered is vaginal dryness, which is caused by a lack of estrogen and can be brought on with menopause.
“Since this was such a common problem I thought there must be a treatment I could provide that would restore the vagina to a healthier state, so I formulated a product with a colleague, a vaginal lubricant called Pure Vitality, that is firmly rooted in science and backed with a passion to help these women,” Cabreira explains. “When my patients are sitting in front of me, after having their quality of life so altered – that was the inspiration in developing my product. It’s a beautiful, pure, organic blend of ingredients with a patent peptide component that helps develop a woman’s sensitivity and sexual energy. Pure Vitality is designed to nurture sensitive tissue and has ingredients similar to vaginal mucosa and will nourish, moisturize and lubricate that tissue. Pure Vitality also contains growth factors to help produce collagen and bring oxygenation and blood flow to the tissue. We’re thrilled to be able to offer this product to help women with sexual dysfunction.”
Estrogen is one of the key hormones in maintaining a woman’s health, and one of the key functions of estrogen is to keep the vagina healthy and maintain proper pH. When estrogen levels decrease as women age, the vagina may suffer dryness and irritation, which puts a woman at risk for pain during intercourse, vaginal infections and urinary problems. For a woman, vaginal health is a very important part of her overall well-being. I personally believe that Pure Vitality is a miracle all by itself that every woman should know about and use regularly.
“The health of the vulva is also very important,” Cabreira explains, “as that tissue is the most sensitive in a woman’s body and it does need nourishing, moisturizing and lubrication. It needs to be pampered, just like we pamper our facial skin, and it’s usually neglected. That’s where Pure Vitality can provide a significant amount of relief. The peptides in the formula are present in every part of our body, and they form bonds with amino acids in our bodies to help heal and nurture damaged cells. When there’s a problem, the body sends out a signal and peptides are part of the team that help heal and repair the injury, and that can be something produced by disease and inflammation.”
To get to the root causes of some of these more intimate problems, Cabreira develops a very personalized plan with her patient. When I discovered Rachael’s Innovative Wellness Clinic, I knew I would become a patient myself. I have seen friends and family completely neglecting these issues and somehow learned to live with a lesser quality of life. I do believe that this can be prevented. Rachael is very dedicated, kind and compassionate. One can be honest and open about anything with her and feeling much, much better after opening up to her. She listens and she has a solution for you.
“I’m very interested in a patient’s story, and the first thing I have to do is to listen carefully, to really hear their story, in order to understand their condition. So I ask a lot of questions – what is your medical background? What is going on in your life? What kind of lifestyle are you leading? I really want to get to the bottom of what’s going on so I can make the best recommendation on what we can provide clinically, emotionally and spiritually to get you where you need to be. That assessment also includes a prevention component that takes into account things like eating habits and lifestyle. Are you eating a nutritious diet with plenty of antioxidants, vitamin D, omega 3s and the other things that are necessary for optimum health? After a personal assessment, I also do a very thorough work-up that includes blood tests, a look at pituitary and thyroid function, cardiovascular health, the gut as immune system, and all the hormones. I also order a urine test which lets me see things at a particle level and shows levels of inflammation through the levels of cortisol and how estrogen and testosterone are breaking down. If a patient’s estrogen isn’t breaking down normally that puts her at risk for breast cancer (or, for a man, greater risk for prostate cancer). So, I have to then figure out how to get the estrogen to break down better in the future.”
When one understands how comprehensive Rachael’s approach is, the choice is made right away. She is the one to go to. There’s a lot going on in Rachael Cabreira’s approach to women’s health, and it all starts with comprehensive, personalized treatments that her team is passionate about. Innovative Wellness and Pure Vitality can offer solutions to problems that may previously have been ignored or not discussed with a medical professional. “About 60% of my patients use vaginal estrogen, which offers many healthy benefits, including supporting bladder health, thicker vaginal mucosa, healthier supporting tissue, healthy pH and prevention against infection,” Cabreira says. “We like to say that people shouldn’t wait until they feel lousy to take care of themselves. That’s part of the message I want to share in educating patients. My whole practice is about building relationships. That’s my passion, and your health and wellness are the ultimate goal.”
